Board and Councils

Joshua is very active within the community and is fighting every day to ensure that voices, especially youth voices, are heard and that real action is taken to improve everyone's lives. See below involvements for community and mental health boards and councils that Joshua is involved in as well as more political Board involvements. 

Community Board and Council Involvement

City of Hamilton Youth Steering Committee

Joshua currently sits on the City of Hamilton's Youth Steering Committee (also known informally as HamOnt Youth. 

Through this committee, we assist the City with the implementation & strengthening of the city's youth involvement while also advocating for top youth priorities & issues to ensure a better city for everyone.

These top priorities include: Accessing Mental Health and Addictions Supports; Accessing Employment and Training; Access to Safe and Affordable Housing; Enhance Safety and Sense of Inclusion; Enhance Youth Engagement and Leadership Opportunities.

National Initiative for Eating Disorders

Joshua currently sits as a National Council Member with NIED since March of 2023. 

The National Initiative for Eating Disorders National Youth Council (NIED NYC) provides a platform for young individuals to be a catalyst for change by making connections, educating, knowledge-sharing, and taking action to address the needs of Canadian youth impacted by Eating Disorders (EDs).

The council advises NIED’s board of directors on programs and initiatives impacting youth and empowers and encourages youth to take the initiative within the Eating Disorders community. The council meets once a month to discuss relevant topics, share ideas, and work towards improving the lives of individuals affected by Eating Disorders.

Mood Disorders Society of Canada

Joshua currently sits as a National Advisory Council Member within the Core Team of the National Youth Advisory Council of the Mood Disorders Society of Canada (MDSC) since February of 2023.

Through work with the NYAC of the MDSC, the Core Team and Council collectively work to support and advise youth programs and services at MDAC, improve resource sharing by creating a peer network to distribute and promote local and national youth mental health resources, discuss policy related to youth mental health and offer perspectives to inform decision-making, fundraise for local and national youth mental health initiatives. 

The Council also continues to work with MDSC to research, identify, and address gaps in youth and student mental health support across the country.

Hamilton West-Ancaster-Dundas Federal Youth Council

Being a member of the Hamilton West-Ancaster-Dundas Constituency Youth Council, Joshua works with other members of the council and with the Honourable Filomena Tassi, P.C., M.P. (Minister Responsible for the Federal Economic Development Agency for Southern Ontario) to raise the voices of those in his community and to ensure that real change is delivered to improve their lives. Through the creation of policy through listening to those in the community, Joshua and all members of the council want to ensure that change is delivered to keep our community moving forward for all.

Joshua is also currently leading a team focused on mental and physical health within the Youth Council. Final policy papers and recommendations to the Minister are done on an ongoing basis.

Canadian South Asian Women's Chamber of Commerce

Sitting as the Chief of Staff; and Executive Assistant to the President and Chief Executive Officer since October of 2022 before taking a National Baord positon in November of 2023, Joshua serves within the Canadian South Asian Women's Chamber of Commerce (CSAWCC) after assisting with its founding in 2022. 

Through these roles, he remains responsible for the day-to-day management of the Chambers Staff, specifically with regards to general operations, human resources, IT management, property management, membership relations (coordinating with the Corporate Secretariat) and any other subject-matters as delegated by the President/CEO. He also advises and assists other National Board members on issues relating to the Office of the President and CEO of the Chamber and completes required duties as a National Board member.

Frayme Groundbreaker

Since April of 2022, Joshua as been a Groundbreaker in Frayme’s National Lived Expertise Network that encompasses mental health caregivers, mental health advocates, and much more, all working together to better the mental health system for youth through better connection.

Unsinkable Community Champion

Since October of 2023, Joshua as been a Community Champion with Unsinkable, a mental health organization in Ontario dedicated to using storytelling to help people bridge the gap between struggling with their mental health and taking steps towards mental well-being.

Through this involvement, he works with thier mission and towards educating, connecting, and empowering people. Community Champions have shown tremendous commitment in the field of mental health advocacy.

Political Board and Council Involvement

Flamborough-Glanbrook FLA

Joshua currently sits as the Vice-President of the Flamborough-Glanbrook Federal Liberal Association (FLA/EDA) since March of 2023. He has previously sat as a Board Member from August 2022 to March 2023.

The Flamborough–Glanbrook EDA Board is a group of volunteers who are dedicated to supporting the Liberal Party of Canada. They work with Liberal supporters, community members in the riding, and registered Liberals across the riding to grow an open, inclusive, and innovative grassroots political movement.

Joshua currently sits as a Membership Secretary for the Ottawa West-Nepean Provincial Liberal Association and Assistant to the PLA President since March of 2023.

Hamilton-West-Ancaster-Dundas Young Liberals of Canada

Joshua currently sits as the President of the Hamilton West-Ancaster-Dundas Young Liberals of Canada after starting the riding club with the Young Liberals of Canada in March of 2024.
